I certainly cannot understand this.

I have two separate accounts on my computer. One loads up tons of stuff on startup [A] and the other loads up nothing on startup [B]. I usually use B when I am recording.

This morning however, I recorded something short on A and it was fine. Then I had to break up that file into smaller files. The first one went okay, no problem.
However, when I copied the second section to a new file, CEP seemed to break up words and added stuff to the file. I closed CEP with the intention of re-opening it and continuing to work.

It closed fine, but would not re-open. I rebooted the computer. Still wouldn't open. I logged off A and logged onto B - opened CEP - it worked fine. I finished my editing, logged off B and onto A. Tried opening CEP in A - I still can't.

Any ideas?

Okay, I did a cold boot and that didn't help either.

When I go to open Cool Edit, the splash screen comes on and it looks like it is loading but then the splash screen disappears and nothing happens.

Elaine,

Here's what I'd do... the implication is this just happened today for the first time and for no reason at all. Assuming you're running Windows XP (watch - it'll be a MAC and I'll end up with schpritz all over my face), I'd do a "System Restore" to yesterday (or, to the last time you know for sure that CEP worked on that account). This won't mess with your data files and should restore CEP to the same working order as last used. Since CEP seems to work on one account and not the other, I don't believe CEP is your problem.

I agree with Doc that it's not CEP. It sounds more like a file under login profile A that got hosed somehow. I found an article on Adobe's site that appears to show where the user settings are kept. If this is the Syntrillium product, then you should find the user data here:

C:\Documents and Settings\[UserA's Name]\Application Data

[*note: "UserA" would be the name of the account with which you use to log into profile A.]

if there's a folder named "Syntrillium" in there, try renaming it to an obvious name that you can find and switch back to the original name if needed. I usually use something like "poo" because that's the state things are in by the time I get to that stage. Wink Just make sure you don't delete it in case you need to take a step back.

After renaming it, try opening CEP again and see if it squawks about missing files.

PM me if you're not sure of anything.
