I keep reading about all the tips to combat dry mouth and the noises it causes. But I seem to have more problems with an excess of saliva than not. I'm one of those patients at the dentist that keep "Mr. Thirsty" busy. On my tracks, I can hear it smacking and popping and it drives me crazy. Any tips for this problem? Thanks

Actually that still could be a dry mouth issue. Your saliva glands will go into overdrive if your mouth is dry, causing you to have an excess of saliva. I thought the same thing until I took the recommendation of someone to hydrate before a session. Drink lots of water, room temperature and swish it around in your mouth. Those noises should go away.

The green apple thing is viable for most folks. Lately, I started using "Oasis" mouth wash with good results. I tried it since finding out Allegra drys the vocal chords....and it works.

Mouthwash (I like Listerine). Works fast and as a bonus gives you fresh breath. A really simple solution to a very common problem.

Let me clarify the mouthwash thing. In my experience, Listerine is mostly alcohol and ends up really drying my tones. (love the breath, hate the taste!)
Oasis and a couple of other brands are mouth moisturizers. They state that on the label.
I also believe that like microphones, what works for one may not work for someone else. What is dry mouth to one is slobber to another. Try different things and see what works.

...and put a towel over that mic if your going to do that! Gasp

Coincidentally, so am I. But that aside, it only takes a small amount--not even a teaspoon--to thin out the mucous which is usually the problem. But there are other mouthwash products that will do the same thing. I prefer products that are ADA certified. Tom's of Maine is the only alcohol-free mouth wash with that certification but Costco doesn't carry it.

I find pretty much any liquid works for me... I've just come off another week of my "working with a cold, rub VICs Vaporub under your nose to speak" sessions. Joy joy joy. Inhaler works nicely, but you can't overuse or your nose gets "addicted." Smile

You're getting a whiff of my breath from where you are? Yikes!

So last week I get called in for an emergency session just as I'm finishing lunch at a Mexican place. I run into the restroom and brush (yeah, I carry a tooth brush) run out to the car and rinse with the mini-bottle of Listerine, race to the studio to read the following line:

Please! No spanking!

Which, of course, I could have read with a mouth full of chile relleno and you wouldn't have noticed.

The line was part of a corporate roast that was accidentally not recorded during a previous session and was "spoken" by an audioanimatronic rodent of some kind. Maybe we should start a thread about the weirdest character you played in a commercial. I recently played the part of a stopped-up sink. The mouthwash would have come in handy.
