Hi All,

Throwing this out there for discussion.

I've been offered a script that's about 500 words for a character read to be used on a video game, but the catch is, he's asking for a contact to use my voice to clone in an AI program to use only for that game with a separate contract fee.

Thoughts?

I'm beyond leery of the offer and their promises. If you do it "the old fashioned way" of being called back to voice more, you'll know how much your voice is being used and you will be paid appropriately. With the A.I. deal you will have no way of knowing how much they're using and possibly abusing your talent.

Resist now before our future overlords take over our minds, bodies, and voices, I say.

Interesting question.

1) You'd be responsible for ensuring he or the company doesn't use your voice clone for anything else without permission. How might this be achieved? Before AI, they simply come to you for pick-ups and work. Now, you live in their house, but you're completely dissociated with their activities. Kinda like tech bros on ketamine. ("Wheee!" ...while the world burns)

2) Basically that's all, folks. How would you ever know what you're voice is being used for beyond the agreement? You don't need to trust me, just ask celebrities whose voices were used without their consent. (Celebs! With money and influence and power.)

Maybe reply back asking what about the current arrangement isn't working for the client, such that they'd want to employ this. You may find they say "we need it now" and you clap back with "Here's a service level agreement that says I prioritize your work first, and commit to having VO back to you within (timeframe) for (project type/number of lines/etc.), which solves the immediacy need of the client in a fair way that works for you both. Good luck.

What a time to be alive.
