I've registered with Dun & Bradstreet to obtain a 'DUNS' number, for the purpose of seeking government contracts. Their online form to request the number requires a "business description," but it accepts only one of the many business descriptions in a multiple choice menu. I tried all sorts of terms associated with VO, but there's nothing even close. If you were successful in obtaining a DUNS number, can you please share what you entered for "business description?"

Thanks!

I have a DUNS number.
Here's what I have in my "Industry" section:

Quote:
Industry: Specialized Design Services; Independent Artists, Writers, and Performers; Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services; Creative services to advertisers, except writers; Personnel services, motion picture production

Is this helpful?

Now, I'm stuck again: they want at least two legal documents showing my company name and address. I have my company name registration document, but don't know what else I can give them. And, trying to get help on dnb.com is worse than trying to get help from a cable TV provider.

Library card? Electric bill?

Seriously, you're a sole proprietorship. YOU are the company. You and thousands more work with the government. A state or federal tax document may do.

Thanks, Bruce. They specified the documents have to have the company name, where I've been simply using my personal name all along. But the income tax documents should work. I'm sure they'll let me know if they don't.

DUNS is a pain in the butt to deal with at the day job and they will bombard you with things that they want you to purchase to make your company presence better on their platform.

I'm not sure if it would work in this context but if the legal business name is your name, sometimes a utility bill is enough. Tax documents would definitely suffice.

After going through all that was required, and being denied for whatever reason, I've learned that a DUNS number is no longer required to do business with the government.

Quote:
"On April 4, 2022, the unique entity identifier used across the federal government changed from the DUNS Number to the Unique Entity ID (generated by SAM.gov)."
