Gotta blow off some steam, sorry.

So, Windows has been great, sometimes for me, but recently whenever they do an update (weekly) it changes my settings for audio and creates issues with not seeing my devices.

Today, had a little 30 second VO to do, and the computer would not see my devices at all. Finally, after a while I rebooted, or so I thought. A forced update which wasted two hours of my time later; and I still had no audio devices showing or they were "not working".

Three hours later I finally found the issue. Windows had forced my devices to be unchecked in settings. Not even the default devices worked. A check box here and a check box there and all is good. But, I am irritated with Windows!

Why, Oh Why do they force an update and why do they need to set everything to what they want instead of what I want? I just want to slap some sense into Microslut and Windows.

Please, leave things alone.

Arrrrrggggghhhhh.

Frank, I'm truly feeling your pain...which is why I still run Windows 7, with no issues whatsoever. I didn't want the hassle that you're experiencing.

Maybe you need to write Bill Gates a letter.

I never liked the autoupdate on systems. I disabled mine in Win 8 to make sure I didn't get any issues with my programs that might not be supported or create unwanted headaches like the one you described.

Are you running Win 10 Frank?
Not sure if this works but you might try it.

Unfortunately I am running Win 10. Bill won't respond to my nastygrams, darn it Bruce.

Eddie, tried the "stop the madness" thing and it doesn't work. In fact, it forced more often updates.

So going to go back to my Hackintosh machine, will probably use Ardour as an editor. Although Audition works well on it and with a new Raspberry Pi 4B, I am going to see if I can make a linux hackintosh or use it as a simple handy toy.

Windoze has made me very frustrated. Can you tell?

Seems like a hackintosh would be more work than just dealing with Win10 and the updates. Have you tried the Group Policy Editor method? When I had a PC I did that and it seemed like it dealt with it. I ended up just going back to Mac... I personally thought about the hackintosh route but didn't want to deal with the annoyance of all the drivers and compatibility garbage.

Oh...and by no means am I starting the Mac/PC debate...just saying what I chose for my situation. YMMV and both can be great.
