What do you think about this system for a room within a room ?

Does it look good to you ? Your thoughts about it would be appreciated.

From first glance, it looks great.

It looks like it could double as a bomb shelter, too!

Just The Facts... nothing new here,
and nothing CHEATED here either. THis is classic isolation technique here, and While the PARTS are a really well-combined concept, the actual INSTALLATION needs to be careful and meticulous,
and as the sub-headlines say
DOOR...
VENTILATION... are possible sources of ruining the effectiveness.
the only answer for ventilation is a labyrinth baffle-box approach.
this can't be cheap... and that is as it should be.

If anyone hasn;t, Australian designer JOHN SAYER's site is a brutal, effective pragmatic resource for this sort of build.

At first glance I thought there were vertical metal stripes, making it look like a bomb shelter, but now I understand that they are stripes of Green Glue !

Thanks John for the link. There is some interesting stuff on his website.

I'm not sure exactly what those green stripes are, but they are definitely not Green Glue. For one thing, Green Glue isn't really green, at least not bright green. And it needs to be smeared all over a surface such as wallboard and sandwiched between two sheets. Even if it were somehow extruded into those rope-like shapes, it wouldn't hold the shape or do much good if it did. My guess is, those green cords are some sort of resilient material like neoprene that serves as a barrier between two surfaces to keep from transmitting vibration from one to the other.

Thanks Lee,

Your deduction makes sense, until you look at the text on the upper right of the picture. There it is written, “Adding Green Glue between layers of gypsum will increase performance even further.” There is an arrow pointing to the green lines.

I guess showing the green glue as a green stripe was easier than showing the glue all spread out between the gypsum boards.

Yep FinMac, they are using green glue in a "sheet" between layers as indicated.

Here's what Green Glue actually looks like.

I think most of us have used Green Glue. The point is, they clearly are indicating the use of GG in a layer. Whether it was wise of them to put those odd lines in as said indicator is another matter.
