Just in case you were wondering, living in the most polluted and dangerous atmosphere on Earth really sucks. Recirculating AC in car and home (or hotel) cuts it down but the smell is always there.

We’re thankful no one we know has lost their home ...... yet.

Looking forward to reverse winds and some light rain in two or three days. That gives us some hope.

amen to that. it rolled in up here finally on friday and so far it's still lingering this morning even though wind currents were supposed to sweep it away last night. we'll see what the next few days bring.

a couple of my coworkers spend 4 days on stage 2 evacuation notice living in bonney lake. they ended up not having to go ultimately but there wasn't any sleep to be had in their household for that period of time unfortunately... even worse were the people who did have to go and now there's nothing to go back to. perilous times we live in.

Oh yes I agree. We have had California smoke so bad for three weeks it makes it difficult to see the mountains surrounding The Ranch.

The only plus has been the winds which moved the smoke for a few days and made it decent to buck some wood (trees which feel on my equipment). Going to help some "neighbors" (45 miles away from The Ranch) pick up the pieces of their abode for a couple of days.

I feel like I am taking part in the History Channel's "Homestead Rescue" program lately. I keep thinking that no matter how bad it is for me, it is probably worse for someone else.

My heart goes out to everyone affected. As if we haven't had enough to contend with this year. Stay safe.

Rain on Friday and a change in wind from the Pacific should make for a much better weekend. Fingers crossed.

i still can't get used to the fact that i can go outside and stare straight at the red sun without shading my eyes. it's unnerving.

saw some pictures posted by friends of mine in new york of their orange/red sun descent pictures yesterday evening. apparently the smoke cloud is checking out the air currents that brought mount st. helens ash all the way to the east coast. amazing to me that it can travel so far without dispersing. also kinda horrifying.

hang in there everyone. we're close to weather changes but the air quality is still miserable.

I keep hearing/dreaming the Temptations song: "I wish it would rain..."

Then I will hmmm the Johnny Nash song: "I can see clearly now the rain is gone..." nearby,

Today I thought I saw a mountain, but it was just a dark puff of smoke.

you're much more of an optimist than i am, frank. when the sun turns that color, usually it's "Red Lenses" by Rush and "Red Sun" by INXS that pop into my head. i'm stuck in the present.

Update: after 9 days of house-arrest, I shall soon venture out into the world.
Why? Because it rained, and the air quality has been upgraded from "Hazardous" (emoji with X's for eyes and tongue hanging out -- really) to merely "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" (emoji with flatline mouth).

Hooray!

I may kiss the ground. Through a mask. You can't be too careful.

Smile Smile Smile Smile

Waiting for the same here at The Ranch...

Still humming "I wish it would rain" here. I am happy no one can hear me, I can't carry a tune in a bucket. Maybe tomorrow I can change my "tune".

rain just started up here. this morning's sun came up a mix of pink and red; hopefully consistent rainfall and changing air currents will finally disperse all the smoke. now if only it could disperse for the rest of the country..

It's been pretty much clear here in the Valley (LA) the last couple of days.
