Hmm, good question! Now that you mention it, it only occurs during moments of speaking - never during a quite or room tone moment.

Based on this, I'd suspect the mic might be the problem. Do you have an alternate mic you can try? Are you in a highly humid environment? Maybe try storing your AT4050 in a gallon size ziplok baggie with some desiccant drying packets - a cheap, no-brainer attempt to suss out a potential prob.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but AV did state the pop/glitch only occurs during moments of speech, and never during "quiet" time of recording. This, to me, reflects back to the mic and not cables. hard drives, etc, as being the problem; these ancillary devices continue to do their job irregardless.

My money is on the mic being the issue. It should be noted I reserve the right to be wrong. Meh

Thanks David - you could be right! The AT4050 I bought used in 2009, so not even sure how old it is.
I just got my new AT4050 in the mail, and replaced the mic and patch cables just to be safe. I have a project next week that I'll get immediate feedback on, so hopefully will be able to tell if the problem is fixed.

I'll post back here with results!

Alrighty, I'm 95% sure this is solved!
After over 9 finished hours of audio this week, no glitches appeared.

I had replaced the external hard drive, mic, and cables. Which was the culprit? No way to know for sure. I kinda think the external hard drive, as it was already causing problems in AA 3.0 - at random times saving a file would take 20-30 seconds for the Save dialogue to pop up - spinning up the drive or accessing it somehow causing the delay (even though I never SAVED to it).

Could very well have been the mic, though, as dwpthe3rd conjectured!

Now to replace my channel strip and interface, I'll start another thread on that.....

only SLIGHTLY tangential...
as to the health of your 4050 (s?)
... I have a pair that is so ...ahem... VINTAGE... that they're also labeled CM5's.
if you have any reason to want to, have AT give them a once-over.
I've had no problem with them but called AT up and the head tech said 'send em in we'll check em out" and the shipping was more than the pittance for their attention.

They were tested for pattern and response specs, got replaced elastic on the shock mounts and returned quickly.
