Suppose you're being offered work that:
- pays a fixed rate of $125 per 9000 words
- requires you to do your own editing, and
- gives you three months to complete a given project
(it is not stated whether the projects are limited to 9000 words)
What would your reaction/response be?
Thanks. _________________ Mike

Hi Mike - knowing your skill set, I wouldn't settle for anything less than $250 per finished hour, especially if you're doing your own editing . This is assuming that this is an audiobook and that they're may be royalties to account for.
If this is a straight-up narration or Elearning type of project, 0.15/word MINIMUM.
You're better than $125 for 9000 words...much better. _________________ "What was that? An exhibition? We need emotional content." - Bruce Lee, Enter The Dragon |

Yeah, that’s about $125 per finished hour... a terrible rate unless you’re really hungry.

I'll going to agree with Bruce and Bruce (Oh... Jeez... there's a Python sketch bubbling away here... but I shall practice restraint)
Union min is $225... and that's without all the editing and file prep! Usually, it would be $300 for a pfh rate. Now, not everyone is going to put union rates on the table, but they're a good yardstick... $250 would be good... $125 would not be. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Restraint? I fart upon your restraint!

I had to ask. The company making the offer did realize that it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.
Thank you all! _________________ Mike
