I've got a couple medical device videos to narrate. Not a problem except that in one section, there's a chart with graphics and...the voiceover directions just say Voiceover: "walk through chart".
I've written to ask the client how they would like this done. I can write out my own description for the grid and submit for approval, but...anybody have any advice for voicing a chart? |

I've done it many times. You basically pretend that you're reading for the blind, and you're going to paint a "picture" of the chart.
It would help to see the chart. Can you share with me or the group?

Thanks Bruce - think I'll have to forgo sharing it. Client specifically asked that I not share...but I've sent them a list of questions along with my suggestion of how I should read it. We'll see if they approve.
Good to know its not unusual. I may ask you to elaborate when we next meet up... |

I often receive UNscripts from people, it's the nature of our business. We need to communicate with people the difference between "to be seen and not heard". Most will take a great deal of no notice.
A couple of weeks ago I received an email from a senior manager telling me of their intentions. I replied with an "if this helps ..." email. The response was clear. WE DON'T CARE! She was a little more polite than that, but I got the point.
Yesterday evening I spent around 20 minutes editing a word doc. Five pages of text boxes, colours, repetitions and stuff I simply did not need left me with a 2 page useable script. They pay me $250 per hour to do the job of a script editor.
I feel your pain. |

A quick phone call would be a time saver and hopefully get a clear perspective.

Thanks for the help, all.
Turns out, they decided to have a scientist write a couple of paragraphs about that chart with the graphs and add it to the script, so now I can just narrate and no longer have to interpret and write my own.
That ended well |

Sometimes I have to voice the chart and other times they write "see insert." I never try to waste my time guessing b/c it is my time. I'd rather spend that time listening to the very expensive CD of Philip's pauses. Fascinating stuff. His inflection... _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic.
