Looks like NBC just canceled their upfront event in May, and my expectation is that others will follow suit or go to some streaming option. UPDATE: NBC is streaming the event; we'll likely see the other networks follow suit.
Trailers are slow since no one wants to launch to empty theaters. TV is going strong but as sets close, who knows.
I certainly don't mean to sow angst (hell, I can't even sew straight), but it is interesting to see the downstream effects of this nasty sucker.
I'm not a conference goer, but VO Atlanta is off, as you may have seen. _________________ Jack Daniel

I've been enjoying flexing my stage acting side by going to a Portland play writers group recently and offering my services. A few actors read the script and the all the writers chime in with kudos and critiques for the author. We've been getting 20 to 25 of us in a conference room each time. As this sh*t gets real fast, I've offered my Zoom account to the head honcho for future meetings. Not quite the same as live, but it beats risking getting a live virus.

I haven't even thought of the likely impacts on in-person work. It's not often I'm asked to head out to another studio, but now I wonder if I will at all in the near term, unless I land some Class A stuff which seems to be done exclusively in "real" studios.
No doubt our comrades who depend on VOs to record auditions and work in their studios are feeling this too.
I noticed that Source Elements is offering some special accommodations to people who want to record remotely because of the virus. Not sure what said accommodations entail. _________________ Jack Daniel

--oh, and Bruce: that sounds fun! Table reads are their own kind of fun, and when people start connecting they can become quite enthralling.
I've also been to ones that are... less than enthralling :) _________________ Jack Daniel

It sounds horrid to say this but I'm making money off of this in the telephony world. Helps that Travelocity and Expedia are clients but many offices around the world are issuing statements via phone. Sadly this week I have a completely different virus and my voice is shot. Probably b/c last week I said I was making money. GEESH! _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Not here but certainly on Twitter and on Facetube some are not making any friends by their overt, cynical exploitation of the situation. Really, really LOW!

i have gotten a dozen or so unsolicited emails from VAs this week letting me know they are "available" for this, that & the other. not ALL of them covid-19 related, but many. this smacks of either opportunism or desperation - neither of which are attractive. don't do this. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

I've been contacted out of the blue by two separate new clients in the past week to assist with delivering corporate COVID19 messaging and have been absolutely humbled to be able to do so. At no point have I thought of attempting to take advantage of the situation by using a global pandemic as a marketing tool. There's far too much of that happening in many, many industries at the moment. |

like mandy - i've gotten several "urgent" telephony updates from longstanding clients. busted one out last night at almost 8pm local time ... because the client was in need ... totally different thing. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

It is cringe-worthy. I think it was Philip (or perhaps Bish? --definitely some English type :)* who recently pointed out that they will find you if they want you. Apparently, some VOs envision big-time producers being shocked at this availability, no doubt cursing themselves at settling for some A- or B-list talent.
*I realize I've asked double-duty of this closing paren/smiley face thing. But I assure all readers that (1) said thing has been working out, and is up to the task and (2) having judiciously weighed the illogicity of using one paren for both tasks against the possibility of having VO-bbers think me as sloppy and double-type-prone, I went for the easy way out. _________________ Jack Daniel
