This. Ever so much this. And the other things Bob said. The craft suffers when study becomes about a get-rich-quick scheme. Become good, and then keep improving. In my mind, VO has always been two businesses: the business of being a good actor, and the business of being a good businessperson. Both plates must spin at once (and continually) for success to be possible.

This is where mentorship comes in. I'm grateful for those who have passed nuggets of wisdom to me, and I'm happy to help new folks where I can. This community is unique in the world of "show business" in that its pros are so welcoming and genuinely interested in mentoring new folks who show promise and initiative.
There's so much wisdom in this forum. Thank you all for sharing it.

Google search "unicorn poo" under Images and there are PAGES of that... that... stuff. What is the rest of the world doing while we carry on with our lives?!

Unfortunately, I came across my first pile of unicorn poo at a VO conference... it was actually difficult to see sometimes, being covered, as it was, in unique little snowflakes who want us all to succeed in our own ways because only we can be us... and we're all wonderful! At times, it was difficult to hear it above the, "Squee!" chorus, but it was there.
