What do you say to a polarised, non free thinking voiceover?

"And the nominations are.."

Here's how it's progressing:
1) This stuff is SO unimportant.
2) However unimportant this stuff is, some people seem to enjoy it.
3) Whilst remaining unimportant, this stuff is gaining traction.
4) It really is unimportant, but lots of people think it matters... so I'm doing it because of them, and I get to wear a posh frock and pretend I'm an important part of "the business". It's good for my profile.
5) Hey... y'know, this stuff really is important.
6) Many talent are lost to the festering heap of back-slapping and self-congratulation.
7) Many talent file for bankruptcy after committing all their income to entry fees, attendance fees, and paying for the hunks of gilded plastic they win.
8) Fiverr picks up the pieces.

As a post modernist Voice Talent I support all the hype and hoolah ironically.

In about 3 weeks I will be channeling my young Mr Grace in a bar in New York City. Needless to say I'll have a young, attractive assistant on my arm to ensure I do not stumble, use the bathroom frequently, take my meds and tell me who I'm patronising.

Someday I shall have to tell you Philip, and anyone who remembers "Are You Being Served?" about the time I appeared on the telly and had high tea with Mollie Sugden. She was quite the story teller!

There is a close connection between the amount of hoopla one believes in and the amount of money one has spent on participation in same.

Unless anyone has evidence to the contrary, no one who will help pay our bills cares. Looking from the inside of the organisation OUT, how many were there to sell services to Voice Over people? Moreover, few if any could offer any real evidence of any significant return, in cash terms, on their investment.

For our business the 6 second opener from Niall is EVERYTHING.

EVERYTHING

EVERYTHING

https://youtu.be/Xfq59PPbSbo?t=180

Following my VOX Award in 2016 for Best Male Over Performance my income decreased in 2017 by $10,500. The "credit" appeared on my website for a few months and then I had it removed.

Here's a realistic solution to a problem which reared its ugly head in Canada a few years ago. If the so called VO community got every member to invest $25 into a holding company it could've bought out Cannuck.com, legally ensured that no one associated with the company could start or support another business for 5 years and simply shut it down.

What did we do? What most people do when a real issue arises, nothing except shout at one another.
