Or, maybe the title should be "rates for European eLearning." You decide.

A European production company is offering occasional eLearning work at the minimum rate of 160 Euro for an initial hour of recording (not finished audio). If additional recording time is required, the rate is 30 Euro for each half-hour.

I'm totally in the dark on this. Can anyone please tell me whether this is an acceptable rate for this type of (European) work?

Thanks.

Well, while I realize it's not necessarily the end-all for rates, I just consulted the GVAA Rate Guide, which suggests a minimum hourly rate of $600 for raw recording. Even if that's off by a bit, the offered 160 Euro currently converts to about $175.

But, please comment as you will anyway.

Cheap cheap cheap. 175? If it takes you three hours to finish one hour you’re looking at less than $60 per hour for your time. Low rates are not exclusive to India or some of the bargain basement operators in this country. It’s absolutely your right to choose to work with them, but ...

Mike -is there any chance when they say "hour of recording" that they are referring to a studio hour - not a recorded hour?

Oooops, I didn’t read your post carefully and you did state it was for studio time and not finished audio time. Hmmmm, still low but better. It’s been a while since I’ve billed that way but last time I did it was $400 for the first hour and half that for each additional hour in increments.

Ask if the material is for sale (subscription or re-branded for multiple clients) or if it is for in-house training.
