You're all WAYYYY to savvy to have installed Catalina, so share this with your loved ones who aren't.

Thanks, George.

This latest story just reinforces the warning to WAIT WAIT WAIT before installing Mac upgrades. And that’s for people who aren’t using recording software as well.

Once they get the bugs out and finish working with all app makers to align their programs then it’s a really good operating system.

Since I just bought a new iMac in the mistaken belief that my "dead" one was "all the way dead" instead of just "mostly dead," I now have two working machines. I think I might go ahead and install Catalina on the old one as it's not a production box, just to see if the world explodes.

My rule of thumb has always been: if I don't absolutely need what's offered in a new OS release, I don't install it. Software and hardware compatibility is my first concern so that I can continue servicing clients with no disruption. Often, several years go by before I do an OS upgrade. For the same reason, I have never bought a car in its first (or even second or third) year of introduction.

If you want to to disable the regular prompts to update, you can carry out the following process:

1. Type or paste the following line of text into Terminal:

sudo softwareupdate --ignore "macOS Catalina"

2. Press enter and type in your password.

3. Press enter again.

To enable notifications again:

1. Type or paste the following into Terminal:

sudo softwareupdate --reset-ignored

2. Press enter and type in your password.

3. Press enter again.

I sourced this info from an Apple discussions forum and it appears to be legitimate. It has worked for me with no adverse affect.

Best,

Alan Smile

Thanks Alan for that trick.

It was great to get such simple, straight forward and effective directions.

Never used Terminal before this time. Worked very easily Smile

Going to add my thanks. Worked perfectly and it's going to be a relief not to have that update showing.

Well, after a couple of days notification free, I received a not-so-pleasant surprise today with a return of the familiar annoying pop-up. Gasp

Curiouser and curiouser.

Back to the drawing board. Meh

If you haven't yet found a solution to disabling Catalina update notifications here is an update to the process I posted above which should be ignored in favour of the following:

1. Type or paste the following line of text into Terminal:

sudo softwareupdate --ignore "macOS Catalina"

2. Press enter and type in your password.

3. Press enter again.

4. Type or paste the following line of text:

defaults write com.apple.systempreferences AttentionPrefBundleIDs 0

5. Press enter.

6. Restart your computer.

So far, this seems to have worked for me but I will update on any glitches should they arise.

Best
