I just spliced together a handful of YouTube vids from projects I've voiced for the U.S. and Japan market. It might run a little long at 5 min 30 sec. So, I'm wondering what I should keep or cut or edit. Any ideas or tips are appreciated!

https://youtu.be/dIp6bLJEfto

Clip list:

World Fuel Services (23.7 sec)
Olympic Pictograms (19 sec)
Whidbey Golf Course (28 sec)
Embrace Tomorrow (35.9 sec)
Sumitomo Chemcial (13 sec)
Kaga Zougan (metal engraving) (32.3 sec)
Omron (26.1 sec)
Dear Natura (4.3 sec)
iSpace (17.4 sec)
Plasma Bomber (game) (29.1 sec)
50 Years of Progress (33.5 sec)
Plant Hunter (NHK doc) (29.8 sec)
History of Denyo (21.9 sec)

total: 5 min 30 sec

Some nice work in there Chris, well done.

From my perspective, pretty much all clips were too long. I would aim for 10 seconds or less for each.

With a couple of exceptions, the tone and delivery was more or less the same across all clips. That's not necessarily a bad thing as it shows how good a fit your voice is for different subject matter but makes it a tad more difficult to decide what to purge. With that in mind, there are some noticeable differences in video and audio quality between some of the clips and perhaps removing the lesser quality ones would be a good start. And as already suggested, reducing the remaining clips to 10 secs or less would leave you with a substantially shorter video.

I hope that's of some help to you. Smile

Thanks for your feedback on this!

I pared it down to 3-minutes:

I cut 2-3 redundant clips, shortened others, and added a couple other things, going for vocal variety (at least in tone and pacing)... but kept in that fairly low-res Japanese commercial clip just for fun.

OK, these little projects are easy to obsess over.

I've got it down to 2 minutes flat and used clips that I think are the most impactul.

I’m glad you’ve cut it down. One more opinion... drop the animation as I’m not sure it fits well with straight narration, and consider putting the iSpace clip back in. It’s one of your most different sounding tracks amongst all the similar sounding ones. And speaking of similar sounding, cuts one and two seemed very identical in delivery.

It's still too long. You have lots of redundant reads, so cutting this to a minute should be no problem. I also agree, lose the animation. It's out of place on this demo. I also suggest lose the fades between spots. When a demo fades, the listener fades. You want tight edits, voice attached to voice attached to voice, with contrasting energies and intents next to each other. This will give the audio illusion of versatility.

Thanks so much for all the feedback! Most of the narration I do in/from Tokyo is straight read stuff. With that in mind, I tightened the transitions, cut the game clip, added a couple segments, and re-ordered things. Got it down to 1 min 33 sec.

If it's still too long, lemme know what I can cut (or re-order).

Thanks again!

PS: Bob: great training with you on the VO Cruise! What a treat!

Hey buddy! So glad you enjoyed the vo cruise: I had a blast as well. We are looking into itineraries to do another in the next year or so.

As for your demo, I don’t know the Tokyo market. My critique is based on what I know to be standard and professional here in the U.S. So I think you are probably best to ask buyers who cater to your community of voice actors. I don’t want to steer you wrong for the vo industry in your market.

Thanks!

Much, much better Chris. There's a tiny piece of audio at the very end that jars a bit. I'm not sure if it's distortion or just requires a quick ftb but otherwise great work.

I think the whole vid runs much smoother now and still captures your style effectively.

Best,

Alan

Much better. Tight and good variety within your narration style.

Yeah there's a little audio blip at the very end.

Onward!

I trimmed off that audio blip...
