George,
My self-built recording studio is close to the same size as yours. 10' x 8' x 8'. I can tell you that the single most important element of sonic control are the bass traps in all 4 corners, from floor to ceiling. _________________ Be well,

I have enough Soundbreak board left over to make the boxes out of that, but it's not easy to construct with, as it's really just drywall. I thought about using a thin MDF, and then covering it with the Soundbreak. Is that overkill?
Would it be better to just use a thicker MDF, and be done with it?

Yes, that would be overkill. You could make the boxes out of cardboard if you had to. The only requirement is that it can support the foam you put on the inside. I built mine out of ½" plywood. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Thanks, Lee!
I'm not so much trying to dampen the fan noise, as I can always turn it off during recording. I'm really trying not to compromise the isolation I just spent thousands creating. But I think you're right. The foam and the serpentine nature of the box should do the trick, without me making the boxes weigh 200 lbs. I'll use whatever is cheapest, then. Heh.
Thanks so much for the input.

Thanks, Bob.
I figured I would need a few bass traps for sure. I'll start at the floor, and work my way up, until I reach my sweet spot. The ATS acoustic panels should be a great help, too.
This is great info.
Thanks! |

Don't start at the floor. Start at "mouth level." _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.
