An update from me:

I ended up sending the MKH60 back. Lovely mic, very refined and initially seductive, but lacks that certain mojo of the 416.

That was my experience too: I liked the 60 at first, but A/B comparisons w the 416 distinctly favored the older mic.

Another note about the V13: because it so articulate, it will render, in glaring detail, any defects in your yakkage. I have to tend to my waveforms more carefully than I did when I used the 416. Still, because the V13 sounds significantly better, I put up with this inconvenience. It can be harrowing when I have to turn something around Right Now, but I am dealing with that.

Also, I should have pointed out that the V13 is a tube mic, thus requiring a decent warmup period in the morning. Of course, this means I'll be replacing the tube at some point (I have spares at the ready)--but this could be a deal-breaker for some folks. Nothing beats the tank-like, always-ready 416 for robustness.

That articulateness will keep you on your game and sharpen your skill. And on the flip side some producers are looking for the natural imperfections we have. I was in a session lately that the producers said "don't worry about breaths or anything else just let it fly. We want that."

416 and 416 p48 is the same thing. I have 416T (12v) 30 years old and i have new 416 but i must say the old one is much better, little darker but sounds fantastic and richer the new one.
