Pro Tools since 2005. The file structure, ease of use for what I do makes it the best option for me.

REAPER. With some tweaking, you can get it to behave like Audition Edit Mode, but with non-destructive editing!

Great for working with video. You can even make cuts to the video, and it's great for messing with the speed.

personally, I've never understood the "fuss" about Audition's subscription model. I mean, I earn thousands of dollars every month using what I think is the best overall tool in the industry for all things spoken word, and it costs me $21 a month. TWENTY ONE DOLLARs.

If I was a hobbyist or literally did nothing but smash record and export then I suppose even $21 would be more than is necessary. But for a legitimate business, $21 a month really shouldnt be an issue.

I'm sure that position will be unfavorable but it's not supposed to be "cheap" to run a business. It'supposed to be a good ROI. If someone cant ROI $21 a month then that is a different story.

But in the spirit of being helpful, Acon Digital makes a very nice piece of software called Acoustica. The premium version comes with their line of repair products which are quite nice. It has a solid spectral view and lots of good editing features.

If I wasnt using Audition then it's probably what I'd use.

There is a lot to be said both for and against a subscription model. I have the Adobe CC full sub at $53. I don't really need Premier... but I like to use it whenever I do my own video stuff. I use Acrobat, Lightroom and Photoshop regularly. So... $53 (less after claiming the expense). The thing I like is no upgrades to worry about...

For example... many people love and rave about Izotope Rx. I bought three, upgraded to six, and now they're trying to get me to upgrade to seven. Yeah... they give an upgrade discount (it's still $199), but I feel like I'm being nickle'n'dimed as a new one comes out every year. You can scrabble around for discounts and offers... but that just makes me feel like they're playing games with me.

A standard DAW program, say Pro Tools, you can buy for around $600. For the length of time I've been using AA I would now have paid over $3000 on the subscription model. That's why it's a rip off.

Every once in a while I try something different, but I keep coming back to Audition. None of the other programs can do what Audition does without a lot of extra steps. And like Bish, I get the whole Adobe package because I regularly use the other main programs. It's expensive, for sure, but not compared to what I get out of it.

i'm firmly in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp. i'm still using audition cs6 - it's solid & get's the job done every time.

Agreed Todd. I record into a Pro Tools 8 stack created by George and edit in AA 1.5 that I used back in my radio days. I have AA 3.0 that I bought for $5 off of Ebay for my travel rig.
