Hi all ... I have posted over on the Chat forum regarding getting training as I am an amateur looking to get into VO. I have mostly been working in the closet by myself for a year practicing mic technique, learning the DAW and listening to commercials. I figured commercial was a good place to start even though I am also interested in video games and animation. Anyhow this is just to introduce myself and put some practice audio up here to get constructive feedback and any thoughts you all might have. It's self-directed and hopefully not too horrible.

Thanks in advance for your time to give it a listen!

Kenneth

For being new at this endeavor those are pretty fair imitations of other announcers reading that copy. Now we just need to hear Kenneth feel them and read them.

I think that's where some good coaching could help! Thanks for giving them a listen Bruce!

You hear but you probably aren't listening.

Spend a couple of hours, as opposed to a couple of hundred dollars, listening to big league, not celebs, voice people at work. Every time you listen to a BIGGY go and listen to something you have done. Rinse and repeat. TWO HOURS!

Say nothing, simply listen. Pro VO then pro vo in waiting. Make no notes, just listen.

Next, record something.

Here's your first piece. 1 hour 59 mins to go.

Another experiment: Find a fully produced piece you really like. Copy the script, record it to your satisfaction. Then let it sit for a week. Go back and compare your read to the finished piece. You will have very fresh ears and will notice differences immediately. Take note and adjust for another read. Repeat the process again. Obviously, don't impersonate the voice, but the subtle inflections of storytelling.
