The definition of "An Award Winning Voiceover demo" is that it got the voiceover voicetalent voiceactor WORK, A PAY DAY, MONEY TO SPEND - NOTHING ELSE .... NOTHING!! ....Google it - NOTHING! Try transferring your high profile to your bank account to pay the mortgage this month.

I should point out that there are people who love the hoopla and hoorah of award ceremonies and other VO events. I don't. If they have a fabby time. LOVELY. But on a cold, as affluent as Venezuela Monday morning, a lump of metal or plastic and an empty fridge .............

There was a full on discussion about this the past few years. I talked a award winner and asked him how did it change his career.

Nothing. nothing at all, he's added the award into his marketing and it has had ZERO effect.

I considered it at one point...but I chose to focus my time and money on the business of being in business. Some will argue that being a nominee will bring you exposure. My response: so will your work.

Insert word "meaningful"

We do not need exposure we need MEANINGFUL exposure.

Strictly speaking I am a multi award winning VO, for work not demos. No one gives a flying **** !

I have nothing against awards. I've won a few, and even if they had no impact on my career, I was proud and happy to get them. And I know people who have won SOVAS awards for their demos, or for producing those demos, and I'm happy for them. However, I think giving an award for a demo is silly. It would be like an Academy Award for Best Screen Test. (The "award" for best screen test is getting the part.)

For the performers. Business value of awards in our business. Little or none.

Personal "Yipee for me value"? As much as they like and I am happy to cheer alongside them.

I do not confuse the two.

I have two Emmy nominations. It’s done nothing to further my career. But it sure is cool! Not all things need to bring with it more work. Often the celebration in the moment and the honor of recognition has value. When push comes to shove, no animation producer or CD gives a rat's ass if I have Emmy or Annie nominations. In fact, they’d be more interested if I had 2 million social media followers. Now THAT will get more work. But statistically, awards, even Tony’s, Oscars, Grammys, etc., are not career builders. Often they’ve been career enders. But damn, if fortunate to be nominated it sure is an awesome ride.

Back in the days when we used to go to ad agencies to audition for things, I would occasionally see local Emmy awards and other accolades for projects I had voiced or been on camera for. Did anyone write me a nice note? Did they offer to buy me a replica of the award (which they're entitled to do)? Or give me to chance to buy my own? No, No, and Hell No.

Ingrates. It was nice however to be nominated in my own mind.

Aren't the awards for "best demo" given for the production and perceived effectiveness thereof? (Sorta kinda like Clios for commercials?)

It’s an interesting perspective. I’ve voiced in many an Oscar winning feature and never expected any acknowledgment as the award is for the entire production. Hell, unless you are a celeb you rarely get invited to the premiere. But that’s why God created the agent and (or) publicist.

As for local Emmys, also the jurisdiction of NATAS and not The Television Academy, anyone involved in the winning production is welcome to request to purchase a participation award. It is not up to the producer’s to contact the dozens involved they may do so. Most of these producers haven’t a clue this is even possible.

You speak the gospel right there...I remember talking to some people for a potential gig and asked if I had over 1000 followers. At the time I didn't. Never heard from them again.

1000 is nothin. Last time my agent was asked the buyer wouldn’t entertain anyone with less than 25,000 followers. I have less than 6 thousand. And my 2 Emmy noms held no weight. But social media followers for fan based vo like animation is today's Nielsen Rating.

Yeah a 1000 is beans to them...I wouldn't even know where to BEGIN to get 25k people to follow me. Not sure if I'd want them to, either.

Hey, it's cool just to be able to say you know someone whose been nominated. But I'll bet those nominations were for actual work you did, not for your auditions. cool
