|During a lovely chat with Heather a few days ago she mentioned how many people would both love to see me.
"We all started a group to git y'all from that thar Scotchland to VO Atlanta!" she said in her colonial accent.
Total cost of so doing is around $4,500. Roll the dice coz whilst I may consider popping over, I ain't ponying up! I look forward to the outcome with the same optimism as a 42 year old Hooker making her 12th attempt at virginity.
VO meet n greet, schmooze n snooze. I get the best from them and try to give of my best. Reality? I don't like 'em that much, it's an INTP thing (see Myers Briggs type indicator).
"I think Philip Banks REALLY likes me!" flutters an FVO at a VO Mixer. Another FVO smiles kindly at Shirley Single-For A'Raison.
"No he doesn't Sweetie, he's just being nice!"
15% of my turnover is set aside for marketing. For the last 10 years I have really struggled to spend it with any meaningful return.
I am very lucky because should any money I spend or invest not generate a meaningful return I can take the hit. Should I take the hit? Is it reasonable to expect me to take the hit? Not at all!
Coming up -
Nancy Wolfson visiting London. Intimate dinner for about 20 close personal friends. Cost to me $1,200
Meet n greet in London within a few days. Cost to me $1,200
VOX. Cost $950 if I'm careful
With bar bill and extras, the above in the next couple of weeks, $3,750.
How much would I spend to see real friends, VO or mere mortals,? As much as required. How much would I invest in VO related events? Up to 15% of my turnover with a reasonable estimate of the measurable return.
Voice Over work is a business not a Cub Scout Pack.
Now, what was I going to do? Oh yeah! Toast Marshmallows and tell Ghost stories.
Live, laugh, don't over think, move on, move on, move on!
