This Alfa Romeo commercial is one of the sexiest reads I’ve heard in a long time.

https://youtu.be/SWMMVTC1AII

Good thing they’re really pricey, or I’d run out and get one right now.

I only got less than half way through then returned to the VO-BB. It didn't bother me that I didn't like it, I don't like liver, football, video games and you are highly unlikely to catch me reading a novel. Vive la difference!

Once I had clicked away my mind was free to decide why I didn't like it.

Here is the reason.

"For goodness sake woman, look at me!"

That's what makes a ball game, as they say.

I like sexy ladies mucho plenty, but I don't care for children.

RIGHT ON! They know nothing about Bergman and can't shift pianos.

Having placed the above on record, the only charity I support is War Child. I believe that knowing an 8 year old with an AK47 who is good in a fist fight may come in very handy one day. I'm a TOP international voiceoverist, I have enemies.

I like this one better.

When I first heard it, I thought this voiceverist must have studied Melissa Exelberth's Mercedes Benz video for the tone and pacing. And then I was stunned to discover it is Lisa Loeb.

OK Philip, this is for fun. Here's your challenge, should you choose to accept it. Alfa Romeo has hired you to produce a TV commercial for their latest sports car. Their only requirements are alluring videography to show off the car's beauty on the road and that the voiceover be female. They seem to think these work best for their product sales.

What voiceover performance(s) might you present to them to show your ideal voice talent for the project?

Ooo good call!

This would probably be a good place to start. More engaging, less affected, honest and it's a broad!

Now, where was I?

I personally can't stand Lisa's read on this one. I believe the fault is in the direction though, not her talent as a voice actor.

Agreed. I was thinking about that earlier this evening. She was over directed and there is no doubt in my mind that the read given was what the creatives wanted as opposed to what was needed.

Affected is dishonest and distracting. My alternate voice and style as requested by Bruce was all about "come and let me show you something" as opposed to "Avante Garde merde bouche!"

While Chris gave a very fine read, it was a fine read for a truck manufacturer. I'm not sure that kind of read with the sexy copy of the Alfa Romeo ad would work. And that's kind of my problem with the challenge I gave. The copy is dramatic, sports-car-sexy, and needs a read with some passion behind it, which I think Ms. Loeb executed magnificently.

So here's the lesson kids: No matter how well you think you matched the copy with your audition read, chances are at least four out of five VO professionals who hear it aren't going to like it. You just have to find that set of ears that loves how you read. Then you'll book it.

That's it. As I wrote above " ..would be a good place to start" and that's the audition thing too! Best guess, no more no less. Where the session will take you nobody knows.

LANTP - Lurkers and Noobs Teaching Point. No one is wrong on this thread. Different ears, different starting and end points. Whilst you may disagree, read and listen for long enough so that you see/hear the logic behind each point being made.

That'll be 87cents or 3 Rich Tea Biscuits for Bess.

This. Embroider this into a sampler and hang it on your wall.
