I'm looking for suggestions on getting my mic stand off the floor. I searched (unsuccessfully) on the forums for info on wall or ceiling mounted booms but came up empty. I did see quite a few ideas for a desk mounted boom (Rode PSA1) but I don't have a desk that would fit my space. I also prefer to stand so I'd need an unusually tall desk. My space is quite cozy to say the least so I need a desk/table that is 3' wide or less and perhaps 4' or so tall for standing use.

Thanks for your suggestions while I now research a DIY isolation booth (jackhammers have taken up in my neighborhood now!) Angry

I managed to find a review on Amazon that said the OC White Wall Mount actually worked with the RODE PSA1.

Anyone have suggestions on this? Favorite adjustable boom arms?

Thanks!

Following the advice of Doug Turkel (probably given here in this forum), I got a Heil SB-2 boom

Mounted to the ceiling with a Heil FL-2 flange.

I used to hang my mic from the ceiling. No stands to get in the way and I could adjust the height easily. Use a support cord to take the mic weight off the mic cable.

Awesome, thanks Lee! Hey, do you find that this rig allows you to move the mic to accommodate both a sitting and standing position (is boom length an issue?) I've got a 7' ceiling and am 6'3" so I might need to use the wall instead. Seems a bit more limited in it's movement than the Rode PAS1 but with the locking mechanisms probably stays in place better I would think.

Yep, a ceiling mount might be tough considering your height. I've got 3 Luxo microphone arms I've been using for 17 years now and they're great.

Thanks! After searching I wasn't able to find one for sale that supported mics. I think I might just deal with the floor stand till I can afford an OC White and wall mount. I appreciate the help.

I bought a small wall shelf at The Container Store and mounted it about waist high in my booth. It is enough to hold a keyboard, mouse, my water and a clamp on mic stand. I have tried floor mic stands in there but they take up too much room. Just a thought.

I'm afraid that's a moot point for me. My booth is large enough to accommodate a.) equipment, b.) a chair, c.) me. Pick two. So the chair had to go. Standing is my only option. My ceiling height is also 7 feet. With the boom as short as I can make it (13"), the business end of the mic is 5'4" above the floor, which puts it about 4" above my pie hole. Since you're about 6" taller than me, that probably wouldn't work for you (standing).

Thanks for that info Lee. That makes my options more clear. Yeah, I'm stuck where I am for now. I think I'll try the OCWhite two section scissor arm and wall mount once I feel I've toughed it out enough. I'd hate to buy a slightly cheaper one to regret it later. Unless one of you can vouch for something else? The 'mounting to the wall' business limits things a bit. I've read mixed reviews on comparables. Right now I'm using a AT4033 which is about 4oz lighter than my "future mic" Wink which I'd like the boom to also be able to handle (TLM103)

Heil also makes a wall mount that works with that boom or their anglepoise booms. I install them on a regular basis.

Good to know, unfortunately that boom won't work in my (very short) basement space. Smile

I have that Rode arm and it works great. Should be fine in most small spaces.

Of course you could just tack your mic cable to the ceiling at let your mic dangle in front of you. Tuxedo is optional.
