anybody ever sing in a VO job? looking for an idea on rate. it's not a jingle, per se, but a part of an industrial/educational project. 2 or 3 verses. i'm being very broad - but neither the client not i really know where we are on this one.

What is the nature of the singing? Casual? to one’s self? Classical-sounding? rock-opera style? Singing a rhyme so you remember something? is is with accompaniment? will there be printable music?

The request is way too vague at the moment to make any guesses.

If everything is presented musically finished— a score with at least a scratch accompaniment I’d say anywhere between 1.5 to 2 times normal rate.

2x normal is what I do with “specials”.

There was an advertiser with WBZ who wanted a singing ad, just because they always wanted one. The radio production guys couldn't understand why I told them the client needed a full-service ad agency.

"Can't you just sing it?"

Pro Tip: any correspondence from a client that starts with "can't you just" means trouble.

Whitney Szabo may know the right questions to ask about this.

thanks eddie - that helps a lot!

i don't know if it's one singer or an ensemble - so lots of variables to fill ---

there will be music provided, but i don't have it yet - it's kind of an intro to the character doing the narration. not sure on the style yet. maybe sort of "schoolhouse rock-ish"

it's not really a "can't you just ..." situation. more of a "how do we ..." kind of thing.

"How do we":

Hire a composer and/or arranger. Need references?

it's a lot easier than they originally described - they have music - just need somebody to sing a few lines. i'll admit, i panicked a little.

They should have been more explicit. I'm sorry you wasted mental CPUs on a solved problem!
