Thanks for spending your time critiquing someone else's work.

First, the site. This site is my own design and creation - I like simplicity, but am worried I might have moved into minimal.

http://timjacksonvo.com

The two demos on the landing page are professionally produced through a previous training program. I am about to embark on a journey with Nancy Wolfson, so I hope to have a completely new commercial demo within the year.

So, what feedback do you have for my site and demos?

Thanks a lot!

Tim

i like it. demos front & center - easy contact. when i'm looking for a voice, those are the only two things i care about. everything else is "look at me, look at me!"

Hey Tim,

You have a good sound. However I'm not a fan of using big name products and services by name if you haven't done the ads, as in Duluth Pants, Audi, and T. Rowe Price on yours, especially when they have very recognizable voices currently doing the ads. Producers will likely know that you're not the voice. I have nothing against using big name company copy, just having them clearly named in your demo. I'm sure someone here will disagree.

The narration demo also had very nice reads. The promo and imaging demos need some updating to be helpful.

+1 on the simple design.

Bruce, thanks for the feedback.

I see your point with the voices already associated with a big commercial name. At the time I didn't know enough to question the scripts or production too much. In your opinion, does it hurt more than it can provide?

Thanks for the compliments on my read!

The imaging and promo demos are self-produced (which is probably obvious). Of course, I have a fondness for them since I made them, but I was at least half expecting a takedown notice if anyone here got to them. They are not as good as or better than others I have heard.

I wouldn't rush to change the commercial demo, but next time you redo it....

Ages ago I voiced a pretty good knock-off of the "Visa, everywhere you want to be" spot on my demo, and lots of clients asked specifically for that voice. I only got questioned about it a couple of times ("is that really you on the Visa commercials") and I felt crummy about it each time.

I've been lucky enough to be able to use only paid work on my demos for the past several years, but I certainly understand the challenges of finding great copy in the early years.

Onward and upward!
