Recently I had a job where I had to pronounce the Greek word, "Mu".

Before recording I checked the pronunciation online, but the client was not happy with the pronunciation, so it had to be re-recorded.

It seems that not all, "How to Pronounce" sites are created equal.

Do you have any that you prefer ?

Thanks for your help!

I'm a fan of the most authoritative source for American English I know of and that's dictionary dot com. They say "myoo " or secondarily "moo". I'm used to the latter but in the end the client wins.

But if you want to go much further try this resource found in the VO-BB Research section, http://www.audioeloquence.com/ . In the current vernacular, it's "yooooge."

Thanks Bruce and Colin for the good tips on pronunciation sites Smile
Appreciate those very much.

Was I dreaming, or did I see a kitten and a cow at one point ? Obviously not there now, but...

In any case, you stated the Golden Rule of Voice Over...

The Client Rules in the End ! (He or She is the one with the Gold)

Cool links guys! It's funny/ironic. I was just cringing the other day at some odd pronunciations in an audiobook I had the pleasure of listening while driving around town.

It really was quite distracting, and I'm honestly surprised the producer and/or director didn't immediately correct the talent ... and this was a big name with a big company.

Then again, who knows ... maybe everyone from TV news persons and everyone I know have all been pronouncing the word in particular wrong our entire lives...
