Hello everyone -

I'm new to VO. I have been learning how to use Audacity, and produced 3 types of demos (Eduprovement, Phone Message, and Radio Image). I would love to hear feedback from this exceptional group.

Thanks in advance to all for your constructive critique!

hi gerry - welcome to the greatest voiceover community on an internet.

you ask for honest critique - and here, you'll get it. there are many, many knowledgable pros here happy to give advice, please take it. others are more eloquent than i in describing where you are vs. where you need to be, but in short, you are not ready to have a public demo. releasing these demos into the wild will do you more harm than good.

go here & listen to pro demos

hopefully those aforementioned "eloquent" folks will offer up more detail & advice.

Thanks Todd. I know that I'm not ready either, but being new to the VO world, I wanted to put it out there anyway so I could gauge my progress. I certainly didn't want to waste anyone's valuable time. Lot's to learn, and many more mistakes to make...but that's the journey I'm accepting.

Also, thank you for the link. I will listen to what the pros sound like.

Gerry

I have never heard the term "eduprovement," but that one sample is actually not a bad demonstration of a natural believable delivery. for this particular copy.

What it isn't is a demo that showcases your ability to read other types of informational and training material - different subjects, audiences, writing styles. And if you do get to the point where you have a variety of things, going to a demo producer for help with final tracks, music selection (if needed for a particular subject) and production is part of the process.

The other two samples show that you need to do a lot more listening as suggested by Todd, so that you can understand more about those particular areas of voiceover.

Imaging and Voicemail are very different animals. A voicemail demo can probably be created at home, as it really doesn't need a lot of music. But again, it needs variety. A thank you for calling message, a short on-hold bit perhaps, an IVR message (I'm sorry, I didn't hear a 10 digit number), that sort of thing.

In the sample you provided, I heard articulation issues on the word "software." Never heard the "t" in software. And do you hear the sing song in the delivery. I didn't hear that in the "eduprovement" sample.

Imaging is a very specialized area.

gerry - absolutely NOT AT ALL. i think i speak for most of us when i say - if you ask an honest question - you will get an honest answer.

Thank you for your feedback Connie. I obviously have a lot more listening and practicing ahead of me. I realize that my diction needs work also.

...it's a journey. Smile

Thanks again.
