As long as you haven't replaced shoes with empty Kleenex boxes and let your hair and fingernails grow for years without trimming.
I'm glad you're just too darn busy to leave the house, and not a confirmed recluse. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

For me, personally, I just never get asked to do in-studio sessions. Probably the last time was about a year ago, and before that I might average once or twice a year. Usually it's a corporate client, like Ga. Power, who wants me in their studio so they can direct.
But the vast majority of my work is non-broadcast (until the recent political season, oy vey!) - e-learning, audiobooks, training videos, etc. A LOT of long-form stuff. My clients - who are, by and large - repeat clients with whom I've worked for years, simply send me the script and are happy to get it back 'when ya can', which is normally fairly quickly.
I also am now doing a lot of Pandora work, and that's all in my own studio, self directed. The small amount of broadcast work I AM voicing right now; the clients are thrilled to get a handful of takes from me and trust me. I guess to a great extent I'm just blessed to have clients who are easy to please, don't micromanage, and have years of good experiences with me, thankfully.
Oh, and no, I don't hate going to the client's studio or a downtown Atlanta studio at all. I enjoy having an engineer there to free me up to concentrate solely on the script. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

I think it's a highly geographical situation. My NY/LA clients do it regularly, weekly in most cases. Outside of those markets it's less frequent. The exceptions are the "Scott Rummells" who are in such demand that their Agents tell the clients you get him via ISDN or you don't get him at all. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Well, I'm back. A 7-hour plane ride over, thanks to the kerfuffle in Chicago just before we took off. We had to dip down and fly across Oklahoma and Arkansas instead of the usual route over Chicago. The shoot went great but was exhausting. A normal five hour flight back but in the most cramped seat in memory. Thanks United. Client bought the tickets on totally booked flights so no opportunity to move or upgrade. But it was a decent payday, a fun experience, and I've got a couple of happy new clients, so it was worth it.

I actually suggest a local studio at times - when it feels right. When the alternative is my phone patch. Like the producer who came down to San Diego from OC. Or when the producer really wants me to focus on my performance and not on engineering.
And I too, love to get out - the studios are not far from me and I get to see people face-to-face.
This year I have had significantly more sessions outside my personal spaces than in past years. But my ISDN is also working a lot more these days - so all is good. _________________ Playing for a living...

It varies, but I seem to find myself in Manhattan at least once a week on average. This can be for an in-studio gig or seeing a casting director. I love the interaction with people... and I also love the way I'm getting into various studios and meeting the CDs, producers and all the other people that make up the business (and have access to the cheque books).
