How do you get the right help for your VO business? ASLAN
ASK - The highly targeted question
SHUT UP - Once you have asked say nothing
LISTEN - Pay close attention to the reply and ensure the answer is specific.
ASK BACK - Repeat the answer in the form of a question "So you're saying .."
NOTES - Takes notes of the specific answer.
Simple example
How many people who studied "make a living out of TV promos" are now do exactly that? Clue. The answer is a NUMBER.
Say nothing until they mention a number. Do not answer a question from them until you have you answer. Clue. The answer is a number.
Listen to the response very carefully, ignore spin, guesses or any other distractions. Listen for the answer.
Say thanks and then say "so 50 people who have studied with you are now making a living doing TV promos, is that right?
If someone is selling you something to help you get somewhere in this business whilst success is far from guaranteed it is measurable. The above is unlikely to make you any money but it will prevent you from wasting thousands. |

You should write a book. Little nuggets of wisdom like this are things that are not being taught by the standard "how to be a voice artist" crowd.

After receiving some very non-specific feedback from a coach last week, this latest nugget of advice speaks volumes to me. |
