I recommend using Classic Shell to bring back the familiar Start Menu in Windows 8.

Amen to that! I could not stand the blobby Fisher Price meets endless marketing interface that is native to Win 8. But with a few simple tweaks, I work from a familiar desktop and get to pretend I'm still on XP. Yay!

Since I started using Windows 8 I don't even use the start screen. The most used programs are pinned to my taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Other stuff has a shortcut on my desktop. I rarely use the start screen. I see it in the morning when I turn my machine on and that's about it.

ALT+TAB is my best friend to navigate as well as Windows Explorer (which is pinned to the taskbar)

I am having to run SF 11 as administrator under 8 at the moment. I haven't had time to dig into this one yet.
