Alrighty. Here is a quick test of the twin. I'd love to hear your take on the preamp emulation.
https://soundcloud.com/inthishope/apollotwin-quicktest
1. Apollo Twin with no processing
2. Apollo Twin with UA610B Preamp (just gain)
3. Apollo Twin with UA610B Preamp (small bump at 200hz and 10khz)
4. DBX 286a (no processing) into Propellerhead Balance interface
I have the hipass filter engaged on both the DBX and Apollo because that is how I always record. The noise floor seems VERY slightly lower on the Apollo, but not worth noting really.
The interface itself is killer to use. It is very easy to work with and get used to, is very solidly made (all metal), and the console software just has a small learning curve. If you can use a mixer, you can use the console software no problem. |

My order of preference... 2 - 1 - 3 - 4.
2 and 1 sound excellent. What mic?
The DBX sounds dull, that box is really designed to use the processing effects, otherwise, why use it. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

Joly mod NT1a. I really felt the same way about the 286a. I also plan to do some testing with some other gear emulation it came with. Supposedly both the LA2A and 1176 add color when completely bypassed, similar to the hardware. The 610B is the only preamp model available thus far. They plan to release more in the future. |

+1 to what Bill wrote.
Difference between the first 3 and the last one was day and night.

Listening through headphones...I had great difficulty telling the difference between any of them. But then, I'm told my ability to hear high frequencies has been severely compromised.
That being said...
I thought they all sounded great. _________________ "I reserve the right to be completely wrong." |
