If that was the "Home and Business" version, that's the one you want. For the past couple of years I have paid $99 for that one, but I see that Intuit is advertising it for $74.99 on their website. That may be for a downloaded or online version. It may still be $99 in the store.

They used to charge extra to e-file your taxes and then rebate the fee, but I believe they dropped that and now e-file for free.

We've used an accountant who is a retired IRS criminal investigator. She has found things TT didn't. Saved us money. She also knows what triggers audits. We've skipped several small deductions over the years that would trigger an audit. To us it is worth it. Plus the fee is deductible. Wink

Yep, a good accountant will likely get or save you his/her fee plus a lot more.

Plus, if the IRS wants to talk to you about your return, you can just send your accountant instead.

Well, see, my accountant would have sent me to the audit.

Good points, all!! I'm gonna try TT. So far, I like it. It asks all the right questions. And Lee, thanks for confirming that's the right version.

I can't wait to get it done and see how much I owe!!! I'm hoping it's not as bad as I think.

I'm in the Scott and Todd camp. My return runs about 60 pages or so. I use an EA - an enrolled agent - not a CPA - and I wouldn't do it any other way. Aside from doing the return, just being able to send an email or pick up the phone throughout the year to ask questions BEFORE making a financial commitment is well worth it. She's expensive but as we all know - you get what you pay for. Wink

I generally agree with that statement, eX. As my brother once said, "You pay peanuts, you get monkeys."

But, my accountant sucked. And I didn't pay her peanuts.

I will report back with my findings re: TT!

I think the only year I ever paid someone to prepare my tax return was 1958. I had a job, two part-time jobs, and attended weekly Army Reserve meetings in the next rural county including taking my own car as transportation to out-of-state active duty training for two weeks. One of the reserve officers was a tax-preparer so I hired him. One time. I've done them all myself since then.

It was about 15 years ago I switched from my trusty old 17-characters-per-inch typewriter (dang! I wish I still had that thing!) over to Turbo-Tax on the computer.

Works well for me. I hope you find that it works well for you, also.
