ummm, I think I should have checked this, but I can go from the Mackie into a MicPort Pro, yes? Do I just turn off the phantom power of the MicPort?

Never tried it but I think it would work. Yes, turn off phantom power and watch how hot you pump the signal to the MPP.

A project box, a double or better tipple pole double throw switch and some XLR plugs will give you a clean path switch.

Can't switch a 48V mic like that, though, NASTY pops will occur. There is a proper switch box made by Radial, though, called the Cherry Picker.

Note that it has it's own P48V supply. Expensive? Yes, but colorless/noiseless. I'd stick with the passive splitter, personally...

True, but the original poster only ask for not having to un-plug and replug
the mic, which will also create popping. That's why you always turn the volume down first.

Ah.... great idea if you have an overflowing junkbox out in the garage. I went in search of such a switch a few months ago. I was ready to drive all the way to downtown Atlanta to the one place on the planet that should have such a switch.... if they are still available. So I called before driving.

They basically hung up on me. Nobody uses switches like that anymore. Use a logic chip. Goodbye.

I looked for Switchcraft and other catalogs. If you find someone who will sell you a switch like you describe, you may pay more for it than what you paid for you Analog-to-digital converter!

A K-V-M switcher to switch at the USB part of the circuit may be the answer.

Radio Shack $4
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062518

or ACK ELECTRONICS
554 Deering Rd NW Atlanta, GA 30309
(404) 351-6340

A little more costly - the miniature for $8.29
http://www.frys.com/product/2873434?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

or the big one for $6
http://www.frys.com/product/2873684?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Lots of sources you can order from too....

You're not buddies with any radio engineers? Check their scrap box.

I left out one parameter in my search. I wanted a silent switch, a very quiet switch. Like the lever switches that were on the old broadcast consoles. One mic related project I did a couple of years ago, I used something from the auto-parts store like you would use if adding fog lights to your car. I'm not very proud of that project... but it works... sort'a.

It was the folks at ACK who lectured me I should get with the modern times.

Then the mixer may be what you want.

It's in the basement.

If I come and get the mixer, can I slip out the door with the mic on the left? Laugh
