|
|
After finding myself out of town without my laptop this weekend and a ton of auditions and a small job coming in (yeah, the one time I didn't think I'd need it...thanks to the Faffers who hooked me u
I've just ordered a USB OTG cable and a 5V powered USB hub (plus a male-A to male-A USB cable) to see if I can successfully get the MicPortPro into my Droid Razr Maxx. It looks like that particular phone will run in USB Host mode, but will not supply power out the micro-USB port, so power will have to come from a powered USB port then I can go from that thru the OTG cable into the micro-USB port.
I already purchased the (Yuku?) Hi-Q mp3 recorder a , which seems to work well, recording up to 320k mp3, tho have not tried it with a direct interface yet. I understand the a to have is the USB Recorder Pro, which, hey for another 4-5 bucks, why not.....I just hope there's some sort of editing capability in that one, for tidying up auditions etc...the idea being to use my AT4040 into the M and into the Droid.
There have been other tests done here, but I wanted to see for myself, and if it just means picking up 10 bucks worth of bits n bobs off Amazon, why not. Will report back once I've figured or not figured it out.
Yay technology! _________________ Chris Mezzolesta, Voice Talent

Here's a test recording I did for yucks: http://soundcloud.com/vostudiotech/mxl-1006-usb-dual-pre-galaxy
You have to use the right a to record with a usb device or you won't get very far. You can then edit with something else. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Chris....
USB Recorder Pro for recording. It's the only a so far that will support an external mic over USB.
Check the developer's site for supporting documentation.
Audio Evolution for editing. It's from the same developer. Eventually, they plan to merge the two applications into one full featured DAW. _________________ Don Brookshire

Items have shipped....looking forward to this. Gonna purchase a s & see how far I get. George that audio is pretty darn good considering...if I can get into a quiet enough space wherever I am it shouldn't be too bad - and with the huge headroom on the M noise shouldn't be too much of a problem. Thanks Don for the tip on the editing a ...I'm in! _________________ Chris Mezzolesta, Voice Talent

FWIW....
Keep your eyes on CL for a used Moto Xoom tablet. Supports USB Host mode, and the screen real estate is helpful for editing. (you'll need very tiny fingers on that phone ) _________________ Don Brookshire

Just bought the 2 a s - gotta say they look tough! (colloquially, in a good sense). Got the OTG cable, just waiting on the hub and the M-M USB to put it all together. Thinks: that and a Harlanbox might possibly be the thang! _________________ Chris Mezzolesta, Voice Talent

Welp - first results - - - none. M not getting enough juice from either the cheepo 5v powered USB hub I bought thru Amazon, or the expensive 5v powered one I just frantically drove 1/2 hr to Best Buy for. The amber 48v light on the bottom lights up but not the plastic ring. Phone does not detect it - tho also it does not seem to detect that I've even plugged a USB OTG cable into it (unlike a regular mini-reg USB when it goes into USB mode, no indication anything changed.)
So square one. Will continue Googling but so far no good. _________________ Chris Mezzolesta, Voice Talent

Chris....
Two thoughts.... 1st, got an RE-20, SM7, or, God forbid, an SM58? Might want to approach it from the simplest implementation first. Baby steps, as it were....
Secondly, give us a rundown on specific phone model, OS version, hub, mic, etc.... I'll see if I can't piece together some ideas to help you troubleshoot your problem....
On the road today and tomorrow (back to back tech conferences), but I'll reach out to a few friends for feedback on your situation.
Hang in there..... We'll get you working.... _________________ Don Brookshire

OK...The Droid is a Razr Maxx (XT912) running Android 4.0.4 - OTG cable was bought off Amazon as was the cheepo USB hub (5V, ?A). Then I bought a Dynex hub from Best Buy, 7 port, 5V 3.6A. No indication of power to M , or connection to Droid (in fact it took plugging my dad's OEM cable in to even get it to enter USB storage mode so I could pull photos off the SD card, let alone USB host mode)
When I plugged the M into the powered 10 port hub going to my studio PC, it lit up & worked no problemo. No combination of non-PC-plugged has resulted in any power to the M - the amber light on the bottom will light, but the plastic ring doesn't or barely shows any light...and no activity on the Droid when plugging into the micro-USB slot ("currently connected as.....") Nothin'. Wrong model perhaps, as it's not the HD model? _________________ Chris Mezzolesta, Voice Talent

Gotcha..... have copied my geeks on your status.... We'll see what they come back with. They helped me get my Xoom up. I'm sure they can offer advice for your setup.
I'll do some research later tonite when I get home from Charlotte, and see what I can add.
This is my second tech conference this week..... I've about had it with "venture speak". _________________ Don Brookshire

That's so 2008.
Now it's all about the "pivot", which is venture speak for "that was a really stupid idea" and "what else can we do with this so we don't lose our funding?"...

Seems that if your audio interface isn't on this list you have a lesser chance that it will work with Android:
http://www.extreamsd.com/USBAudioRecorderPRO/
However, I am using it successfully with the ART USB DualPre, which isn't on this list (and is only $80). On Windows the CEntrance MicPort Pro doesn't work without installing drivers, but it works driver free on a Mac. I don't know if that has anything at all to do with it's functionality on Android.
Here's a little surprise: The Apogee MiC and ONE works on Android! _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.
