What are some other great value cables? I hadn't ever heard of the RoadHog's. Wonder what other brands I'm missing...
Currently I have:
Mic to preamp XLR: CoreOne X2 see here: http://bit.ly/15zeeKS
Scarlett to monitors: Monster Prolink Studiolink TRS (they came with the CX5's, second hand) |

Not all cables are created equal and cables can add or take away flavor from your signal just as a preamp or microphone does. Do the cables all work. Sure. Do they all sound the same. Nope...
The studio standard is a quad 4 type cable invented (?) by Canare. And the big players are... Canare, Clark Cable, Gotham, Klotz and a few others.
I have replaced all my cables with custom made ones. Neutrik Gold connectors and Clark Mink 4 cable. They cost me half of what it would cost for top of the line Mogami gold at a big box store and I got a far better product.
Clark Mink 4 cable retails ~$4 a foot. My cable guy (lol) averages a little less than $2 ft plus connectors. Plus he uses some uber quality silver and gold solder from Germany. Google Clark Mink 4 for more info about the cable. He has Mogami and other cable as well.
PM me if you want my source info. I am not sure what the policy is here about referring service sources.
I just ordered another patch cable myself.
Real Litz wire is the holy grail. Silver plated copper individually insulated tiny strands. A huge pita, labor intensive to work with and solder but WOW. It is what Monster et al have tried to equal. Studio Projects has a Litz mic cable for a bargain price. ~$20 on Ebay. For Litz it should be 10x's that. I have heard good things but have not tried one. It is the only one I know of that is being commercially made. Could be a sleeper...
Someplace I read about some audiophile that dropped $15k for a set of Litz speaker cable. Solid silver wire as I recall.
