The only page with a display bigger than 800x600 pixels is the books for sale page, which is longer.
VO-BB has a dynamic set to it-- so it can really stretch or squash. |
Gosh, were you really!? How sweet.
What about the offset to the right? Do you see that it doesn't look centered. Seems like more margin on the left side than the right side. _________________ Playing for a living...

I've used "slices" for things that had a million rollovers (my barnyard, for instance) but I don't really see the point for a single image.
Let's try this as an experiment:
http://www.vo-bb.com/PatFraley.com/
See if it loads faster.
It might just be Fraley Boy's server. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Deirdre,
If anything the images seem to load slower to me. _________________ Be well,

Connie--I was thinking of you and people LIKE you who prefer smaller browser windows.
The deal with the right-offset is an experiment with absolute placement.
It's not centered, it has a static placement in the browser window.
It's all part of another motif that seemed more artistically necessary, which has so far trumped centering the tables. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Loads quickly for me. And I'm on a laptop fed by my wireless router. _________________ www.voiceoverdrew.com

I stole the image to see what you were doing and thought I was just going to get the picture of Pat, but I got the entire page - so...now I see that you have offset the picture of Pat inside your basic screen image. So you have a double offset going on? The pic of Pat inside your full image (that includes the navigation stuff) AND then that is further offset?
In any case, whatever is going on - it will only work in a full browser, anything smaller than that apparently will ruin the rule of thirds AND with it offset to the right, will cut through the image.
Have you tried just putting the image (or the table) on the left? I just dropped the image into an html page and left the table left and with my window down to it's usual size, there is a little bit of edge on the right now, but no scroll bar.
You can still see the offset because the picture itself is offset.
I'm done now, I should worry about my OWN website! _________________ Playing for a living...

IE6 has some issues caching images which may account for some people loading slower on every visit. |

Steve,
I'm using Firefox. The slow load is only visible the first time. At least for me. And it's not that is's super S L O W. It's just that the graphic sort of unrolls onto the screen rather than pops, whcih is what I'm more used to seeing. _________________ Be well,

I'm assuming most people don't use browser windows smaller than 10" across.
This 800x600px image is set to display at an absolute position of 150px from the left and 14 pix from the top.
the key here is to keep the logo from jumping as you move from window to window. The Books page was not playing nice, so I anchored 'em all to the same spot. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Won't it be harder to maintain a calendar of events as an image vs. using text? Plus, what about people who want to copy and paste the list of events? I'm sure I'm not the only one who does things like that-- I sometimes will email a list of classes or somesuch to someone and ask if they can join me, etc. Or I'll email the list to myself so I can check my calendar...

Not at all. It's just as much work (for me, anyway) to change and upload an image as it is to change HTML text.
If I could be sure of the integrity of the display, I might be more inclined to use HTML text for this page. But-- Pat always says "It's not about YOU , it's about THEM"
so my notion for integrity may just have to take a back seat.
We're also going to be making links for the individual events that will go to its own page of highlights.
I am retooling as we type. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

The webite loaded up fine.
I knew a Pat Fraley a long time ago back in Baltimore. He was a car salesman... probably not the same guy.

Did he talk to you in a funny voice? Or multiple funny voices?

I have a wi-fi internet connection, not as fast as cable is reputed to be, but it loaded quickly and smoothly for me. Everything looked good - real good!
Easy to navigate and no clutter. I like "easy to navigate". I like "no clutter". I like "loads quickly". Websites that load slowly, are difficult to navigate and are cluttered and visually unappealing just don't hold my attention or interest.
It appears as though some minor flaws were discovered and corrected, and if I were to find any fault of any kind, it would be that I like to copy and paste certain things so I can print them for future reference, so on this I agree with Amy.
All in all, I would say "Good job - well done!". |
