Hello Everyone,
Just signed up a few days ago. I am just starting to seriously getting in to VO and am basically in the setting up of a home studio mode and will be doing a demo....after much more practice. Must say I am impressed by all the talent here and already have picked up a lot.
Mostly from all the positive input on the Martech I just bought a used one (came in today) and will be retiring the ISA One I have been using. What I am trying to figure out on the Martech is... what is the difference between putting the Mic into the "Mic Pre" input or "Line input. What I am trying to do is feed directly into my A/D card from the Martech with no mixer in between (to keep as clean as possible) and also use a set of headphones (if that is possible) at the Martech itself.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Warren,
Mics go into Mic Pre in. Line inputs don't have the gain needed or phantom power for mics and are for sources that are already "pre" amped.
Not a technical answer, but there you go.

Hi Warren, and welcome, and good luck!
You'll get to know me quickly, I don't waste time getting to the point, and I won't waste yours.
At risk of sounding harsh, why do you think you need a better preamp?
If you don't know the difference between those two inputs, how could you possibly tell how differently these two pieces of equipment interact with your microphone and voice?
Just hate to see people get G.A.S.!

Yes I know the diff between a mic pre input and a direct input (D the Martech as far as I can tell is just a mic preamp (no D yet it has two paths for the mic pre and one is labeled line in. Was just asking what the difference between the mic pre paths are. |

I'd say for the cleanest path, bypass the line section.

John,
After reading your post two or three times and doing a little more research I think I got it. The thing that was bothering me was that if you use just the mic pre path you have no VU meter but the trick is to switch down and feed the mic pre down to the line side use the VU meter to set levels and then bypass the line side and go back to the mic pre side for the cleanest path.
