This might have been posted somewhere(I did a search) but I found a helpful guide on reducing P-Pop sounds using Audacity. I'm usually pretty good with them but once in a while I'll get a plosive and it used to mean I had to toss my whole recording.

But now(insert Infomercial sparkle sound here), I can remove the offending sound:

http://www.homebrewaudio.com/rapid-voice-over-recording-with-audacity

See steps 11-14

(The pics help for reference when setting the EQ curve and also for figuring out what a P-Pop looks like.)

Hope that helps!

cheers!

Hmmm, I'll definitely have to try this. Thanks, Jude!

I use this same program for a similar reason. Fantastic at removing things like that!

I'll have to experiment with that!

If you're feeling pretty lazy, there's a quicker/hackier way that I use in Audacity as well. Note that jwillis's way will probably sound better, this is just a quick and dirty way to get a similar effect.

I find the plosive, highlight it, and go to Effects-->High Pass Filter. I set the frequency Limit to 150 and run it.

Note: Make sure your highlight starts and ends in "quiet" areas, otherwise you'll get a clicky sound.

It's not going to sound perfect, but should sound better than a big, fat plosive.

I finally posted!

Yeah... Hi guys. I've been as unobservant as Todd!

As for the de-popping... or de-anything-ing really, I tend to find that unless you're fairly buried in a mix, a treated file usually screams that it's been... well, treated! Most of my stuff is audiobook narration, training and corporate stuff and whenever I've mucked around with any of these fancy filters, my relatively exposed audio track sounds a tad off to me. I've had some success with a de-essing filter, but I solved that problem by replacing the mic with something more suited to me.

I've found that the time invested in playing with & tuning the de-whatever-ing filter is more than curing the problem at source (as per Todd's comment about technique) and going in manually when something slips through... fully-armed with backup Ninja

Believe me... if there were real magic pills out there, audiobook & long-form narrators would be all over them like a rash!
