George, YES...I really wanted to do the green glue, but I was at the end of my budget, LOL At this point, it's good enough for me.
Scott, I have noticed that if I leave the door closed when I'm not working for an extend period of time there is a decent amount of humidity. I'm in Colorado, so if I leave the door open, it so dry here it's not an issue. Also, you are VERY right about the weight. I was concerned about that with what I have. I did the joists for the ceiling the same 24" on center per wall (giving me a stud every 12" staggered), and even two layers of drywall with the mud and tape, and the acoustic panels (probably about 15lbs each x 6) I transferred some of the weight of the panels to the walls by attaching the center portion of the panel to the ceiling and then resting the outer edge of the panels on the top of the panels on the wall. |

Some really good stuff here..thanks to all who shared their approaches. I've been looking at some similar solutions in terms of DIY upgrading and really like the DIY sound panels. The ideas that I've been toying with are similar; I'll be happy to share as well when those ideas come to fruition. _________________ "What was that? An exhibition? I was reading over on Gearslutz (they have a sticky dedicated to DIY bass traps in the studio/acoustics section-bass traps, acousic panels, etc), and one of the folks mentioned using FRK/FSK as a covering for the panel. They said that:
FRK/FSK is a scrim facing that comes on some insulation products. It's paper on one side, foil on the other, and has a reinforcing mesh in the middle.
The purpose is two-fold:
- act somewhat like a damped membrane increasing absorbtion at a specific band based on the density of the material behind it.
- reflect upper mids and highs so you can absorb the bottom without overdoing the top and making it too dead.
This is just me showing my inexperience with sound, but would something like this be good for VO, or is this for more of an instrumental type setting?
Thank you for your time,
Scott |
