VO specs today on voices.com

"I'm looking for a senior voice with an European accent.
I would like the dialect to be very proper with an awkward twang.
The pacing should be informative yet dramatic.
A British voice with an awkward twang is heard, it sounds
as if it’s coming from a 60’s radio, perhaps it was
playing from a record player, who knows it’s not like
evidence of a radio player is seen. Just heard"

What's your best guess for what a British awkward twang is?
What does it sound like?
And do Brits really consider themselves Europeans?

Roger, the last part of your post is easy to answer... yes, a Brit considers himself to be European when an American is asking for a "European" accent or feel... when choosing an audition to follow-up, if no accent is specified but the text of the request says European, then I'll consider myself targeted.

At all other times the answer is definitely NOT. Europe is that bit of mainland off our coast. They talk funny and eat the strangest things. Recent (post-WWII) attempts to make us all one big happy family are designed to prevent war between the individual nations and for financial one-market commercial advantages. These reasons are not bad ones, but Brits are considered as "Islanders" with their own sets of sensibilities that don't necessarily conform to the European norm (if there could ever be such a thing).

You can't change 1000 years of history with legislation ... Vive la différence Smile

... and I did shoot off an audition for that one... my "awkward twang" came from an overload of coffee and the artistic decision to record it with an over-full bladder from the aforementioned coffee Smile

Awkward twang in British? Anything that does not sound like BBC Received or 'Mid-Atlantic'. Throw in some Scouse or Geordie twang and you're golden Rolls Eyes

*Edit* Scratch Geordie. Use any other northern stuff. Don't go West Country either. They'll think you're from Ireland.
