I believe in getting in front of people as much as possible, but I think it's better to give folks a choice of what to listen to once they get to your site. What if the they decide the voice you have as your greeting isn't what they were looking for? Would they even bother with the demos after that? _________________ Greg Littlefield

I just clicked on a link to the latest Commercial Voices newsletter and endured the VO and the jingle. There're fine in their own right and I'm not in any way dissing Commercial Voices (I know some of you are affiliated with them), the voiceover or the tune. But I thought it was totally cheesy. And I found no option for turning off the sound. (Sometimes, I just really need to express my opinion. Now back to regularly-scheduled trolling.) _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

NO!
I find this the #1 annoying thing of any web site. Default to off and let me CHOOSE to listen. I can't stand web sites that automatically yell at me and my site will NEVER subject the visitors to such shenanigans. I want them to come back, not piss them off.
ESPN is really bad with this.

Don't worry Banksey....I know you have only voiced things for billions of people across little ol' EARTH....I know it will pick up for you though.
I just picked up an agent on Mars and looking at one on Mercury.....I hear the VO scene there is really HOT! _________________ Ben

Tenn Poor Zent of Alashkas, Zoot and Emperor Dave Inc represents me on all stations throughout the 9 Moons of Kypos 4 and his affiliate an unnamed Slithering Pooh Beast from Grondall Mikami Goo looks after my interests well into the Stained Quadrant and beyond the Quiet Zone.
Mars? That's a younger man's market. |

Banksey has a very civilized Play Control device that is instantly visible and easy to use on his page.
I like that-- otherwise, meh. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Has anyone here ever been told by a producer or an agent (or anybody else who does, or assists with, hiring) that they're turned off by hearing a voice talent's voice upon visiting their Web site? |

That's assuming that the producer/agent/casting person still contacted/hired them after being "turned off".

Not at all. I could certainly imagine other instances in which said person might mention their distaste for the practice -- at a workshop or seminar, for instance, or even over lunch or at a party, etc. Ask a casting director what he/she *doesn't* like -- you might just get an earful. And some of it might even be helpful.
I know one casting director who told me that voiceover Web sites are a waste of time -- that he never looks at them. Ever. He wants a demo CD in hand. Pretty old school, I'll admit, but he hires for some very lucrative work. So I've made a note to myself to make sure he always has a physical copy of my demo and to never refer him to my Web site. I didn't have to be rejected by him to learn that valuable bit of information. |
