Found a blog post from 2009 (I don't remember seeing it and I thought I'd subscribed) outlining some of the issues that I am guessing (and only guessing) might have been at play here.

Please note, this might be a false positive, but according to my anti-malware software, Doc's blog has been hacked and a "trojan installer" tries to run in the background when you visit his site.

I don't believe that there's any doubt about Doc's passing, Mandy. Bob's comment about a "false positive" appears to refer to the malware that has been unfortunately tacked onto Doc's blog. Bob wasn't sure if the report from his malware tracker was accurate, but Jeff got the same report.
