Hey, don't feel bad. It's easy to do, and when you are not yet well practiced in whatever it is you are doing, mistakes will be made.
Ya know, wisdom comes from experience - and making mistakes is the experience that brings wisdom.
By the way - since you are fairly new to voiceovers, production and all that stuff - Goldwave offers free generational updates for life, which is pretty nifty, eh? Well, They offer something else that is neat-o-keeno, too. It is a plug-in that you may find very useful and only costs $18. It is called the Goldwave Voice plug-in. You can find a description of it here http://www.goldwave.com/plugins.php#GWVoice.
If you have a track where the level is not consistent, there is a tool that will help fix it, quickly and easily - within anything approaching reasonable limits.
If you are going to be usin music beds and are concerned about matching levels so the music does not overpower your voice or end up muted to the point of being too soft - there is a tool that makes it a snap. It also has a couple of other really swell gizmoids too.
I usually prefer to do things manually and generally avoid automated doo-dads. They have been offering this plug-in for about a year, and I just decided last night to download the free trial version - I worked with it for a while last night and for a bit this morning and decided to buy it. Good stuff. |

Does this plugin work only with Goldwave, Don? Or do you think it might work with CEP 2 as well.

I would bet that he was thinking of WMA files rather than WAV files.
I use the Music Match Juke Box software to manage my database of around 6500 tracks - and I also download tunes from MMJB on occasion. They now send their stuff as WMA instead of MP3 - because for a given bitrate, the quality is better. |

Sorry. The plug-in isn't a third party creation that is designed for use in a variety of editing programs. It is a proprietary Goldwave item.
When I first bought Goldwave, years ago, it was a good product and quite serviceable. With the constant and ongoing upgrades and improvements, it has become an extremely capable, high quality program that offers an incredible variety of tools that work well.
A little earlier, I read a note on the Goldwave forum (www.goldwave.com - then look to the left side and click on forums ) a note from a contributor that has been using Cool Edit - he says he likes Goldwave for various reasons, but especially the noise filter which he says is superior.
Go ahead and download the free trial edition. It is fully functional - everything is there ( but not the optional plug-in we were talking about). And you can use it for an entire project because it does not cut out after thirty seconds or do any other wierd stuff like some others. The trial period is rather generous, you can get a fair amount of use before needing to pay up. It's kinda nice to know that the program will never become obsolete and unusable - because the frequent updates are free. The optional plug-in is one of the very rare occasions where Chris has charged a fee for something like this - the only time, as far as I know. |

Just a quick note here. I used to use Goldwave before I went with Audition. Also, with my old setup I had the need for noise reduction with every recording. Even after I switched to Audition, I would save my file as a .wav and open it in Goldwave and run noise reduction on it, because I got superior results from the Goldwave noise reduction. The noise reduction in Audition couldn't touch what I needed without screwing my voice up completely. I tried Waves X-noise and it was better, but still couldn't do for me what I needed. But Goldwaves noise reduction....usually the "default" preset, either totally removed all audible noise without screwing up my voice...or removed enough to make it usable. Goldwave is a great product and I own it, even though I mainly use Audition now. I could easily go back to Goldwave and not feel like I was losing out on anything. Great product.....just can't multi-track on it. Thankfully, I don't have need of noise reduction anymore with my new setup.

Okay - I was logged on to the Goldwave message board, and one of the others suggested this product - I have another bit of software from this company (Wave Repair is the other program) and I am happy with it, so I would imagine this one might be pretty serviceable too:

Volume Balancer is a shareware utility which adjusts the peak and average levels of WAV files so that they have the same perceived loudness.
More advanced features allow the user to set things such as the maximum allowed dynamic range compression, normalisation level, correlation between tracks whose relative loudness should not be altered, etc.
For evaluation purposes, Volume Balancer is fully functional with the exception that only the first half of each file is processed (ie. the output files are half the length of the source files). Registration costs US$15 and removes this restriction.[/url] |
