VO-BB - 19 YEARS OLD!

I had a little lung issue (pneumonia) for the past few weeks. I finally was put on the right course and things are much better. But... I was referred to a Chest Medicine doctor for some further exams. The doc suggested that my bronchioles needed a boost for more air intake. I thought I was doing just fine. They gave me a 25 shot sample of Advair. I gave it a try for a few days. I didn't feel any different, but I did notice my voice was channeling Andy Divine.
When you use this stuff it says to rinse your mouth out with water... and I was. But it seems the Avair also did a job on my vocal cords. I stopped using the Advair about 2-3 days ago. I'm just now getting almost normal.
I wasn't sure if others on the board are using Advair or had the same experience as I did.

I used Advair for a full circuit a few years ago and didn't notice any deleterious effect. Of course, my voice is already a bit higher than yours, I'll wager.

Mucinex, on the other hand, gives me laryngitis EVERY TIME.
Within 3 days of regular use.

One of the popular sleep medications... Ambien or Lunesta... has the potential to cause swelling of the throat and/or tongue which, of course, can be fatal. You want to sleep? Take one of these, and you may never wake up.

Drugs.com is a great resource. Administered by the people who publish the Physicians Desk Reference, the website tells everything about prescription drugs, including side effects. A few years ago, while taking a prescription drug, I logged in to drugs.com, typed in the name of the drug I was prescribed, and read that one of its POSSIBLE side effects was that I might develop cardiac problems. And, for a different drug: "It is not known exactly how {drug name} works." Well, I thought, perhaps I can use these drugs to spackle holes in the wall, because I will certainly not be ingesting them any longer.

I think what has gone wrong is that today the focus is on MEDICINE... and not health care.

For some people, this drug is helpful and is no problem. Other people have the same problem that you've been having. The consensus among my singing colleagues and doctors with whom I've talked is that it isn't a good idea for voice professionals to use it long-term.

My dad has emphysema and has recently started using colloidal silver. He says he has never felt better since he was diagnosed. He had been using Advair but wasn't happy with the results.

Wow, my doc gave me Advair for a nasty case of bronchitis one year and it was awful. Everytime I huffed the stuff my heart would pound and I'd be light-headed for a while. Stopped using it as soon as I could.

Sorry to hear of your maladies, Bailey. Hope you're feeling better.
I've made a concerted effort to be drug-free. All I take now are vitamins and generic claritin for ongoing sinus issues.
A great thing to use instead of Mucinex is Alkalol- which dissolves mucus.
