Anyone done an audiobook for free for a % of sales?
These are educational books, probably will be bought by schools and libraries. Working with really rough numbers it'd take about 100 sales to make what I would make off an average audiobook of similar length. The plus side is that I'd be getting quarterly residuals for eternity, or until I die, whichever comes first.
This company is just getting off the ground though so I don't have anything to compare it to. PM me if you want more details. _________________ Adam

No, I haven't and no, I wouldn't. Instead, I would do it the Indie Hollywood route. Take a reduced fee upfront for a bigger piece of the backend. But never free. If this company goes belly-up and you gave them a free audiobook, then you've got nothing. At least with a discounted rate, you have something to show for it, albeit not full price.
Audiobook work is the hardest type of voice over work and most time consuming. Are you doing the editing and producing? Expect a 4:1 ratio of work to finished product. Are you willing to give that away?
New company, no guarantee of sales in an age when traditional publishers are going the way of the do-do. Be wary. _________________ Jeff
