I get emails regularly from a potential client that didn't have their stuff together a couple of years ago. They send out constant contact-like emails and while I normally delete them, I do read the headlines and move on. I've not deleted myself from their mailing list because I'm still hoping they will go the VO route (they are a recording studio working w/ musicians).
Tonight's email was along the lines of "want to learn how to be the top musician? Join us for $xx and we'll tell you how to make it happen. Running it will be XYZ who has won this award 40 years ago and talks to people like you every day."
Looks like marketing yourself as the new big thing to teach marketing is the way to go. I'm not arguing with the process, just noticing that it is leaching into every industry. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

My take on the Morgan Freeman intro comes with my voiceover hat off.
Put 100 lay people in front of a TV set who are hearing the new intro on the CBS evening news for the first time and many will know it's Morgan Freeman and think's it's cool. Few, if any, will critique the read and think he's not right for the part or did a sub par job. CBS got what they paid for; A highly acclaimed actor/ recognizable voice to open their newscast.
Likely scenario:
Wife: "Hey, isn't that Morgan Freeman's voice?"
Husband: "Yeah, sure is."
Both: "Hmmmm."
Unlikely scenario:
Wife: "Hey, isn't that Morgan Freeman's voice?"
Husband: "Yeah, and what a horrible read he did with the copy."
Wife: "For sure." |

Um, that post was supposed to be it's own thread. Wow...sorry about that. Perhaps I'll cut and paste it elsewhere. Or maybe I shouldn't trust myself. Will there be a flogging? _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Never mind about Morgan's Rum! We're missing an important issue here. There's is only ONE newsreader called Kate.

It's possible that the "director" of the spot wasn't interested in actually directing the talent. I've seen that "fear of directing a big name" in other projects, and inevitably, the end product sounds... undirected. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

I tend to believe they wanted it that way. There is absolutely no individual in news who could OR should replace Walter Conkrite's opening. Your other option is to go completely in the opposite direction, which is exactly what they did.
James Earl Jone's CNN tag still has all of them beat. _________________ Genus |

Fram CBth Noos Worl Headquarters in Noo Yok, this is the CBS Evenin' News with Kaddie Kerrig.
I can only suppose he was directed (if at all) to have such sloppy diction...even on her name. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

That's OK. Katie begins the cast with "Good eve-neen," and mispronounces every 'ing' as 'een' for the remainder of the half-hour anyway (as do many other professionals with equally lazy diction). _________________ Mike
