Depending on the requirements and the sound I desire it can be a combination of the following:

AKG 414, Neumann U87, Neumann M149, Electro-Voice RE20, Octava to:

Avalon VT-737SP Microphone Preamp, Focusrite Red 3-Dual Compressor/Limiter to:

Venice 320 32 Channel Mixer to:

MOTU 828 MKII or M-Audio Delta 1010's to:

Sony Vegas, Adobe Audition, ProTools (PC).

Nice toys to play with, but they also do some serious music recording when desired.

RE20 --> Symetrix 528 --> Edirol UA-5 --> Dell PC running Windows XP.

The UA-5 is a USB sound card like the MBox, but it's cheaper.

Primary: simple DAW.

RODE NTK -> Digidesign 002-Rack -> Medion WinTel box - > BX5 monitors.

Insert: Antares AMM-1 microphone modeler between mic and sound card, sometimes. Mic's inside a Vocal Booth soundbooth.

Shure SM-58 used, sometimes for quick demo's.

Oh, yea. I forgot. Secondary (portable):

RODE NT-1000/Shure SM-58 -> BOSS BR 532 -> iMic -> USB into anything (iMac/XP) or BR 532 and optical output into whatever has an optical input.

For fail-safe redundancy, I use a Tascam CDRW-4U (stand-alone CD-R burning in real-time) with the primary or secondary systems. If I need to use only the BOSS BR 532 and the Tascam, a regular CD is burned, enabling me to load on any computer and convert to WAV or MP3.

Rode NTK mic, into HHB Radius 40 preamp/compressor, into PowerMac G3 with ProTools Digi 001. I use an RE20 for high intensity spots, but don't like the dynamic hum I get. Everything gets sent through WAVES L1 Ultramaximizer before it leaves the Mac.

Apex 430 into ART tube channel, insert DBX 266XL as a light gate after the pre, back into the tube channel and out to Behringer MX1604A and into Pro-Tools on PC (v 6.1.1 on AMIII).

Upgrading the mix and proc this year for sure. Laugh

Deirdre, we have the same chain except mine goes into a PC and not a Mac. The difference is I have to stop productivity to reboot. <g>
