I just took a break and was flipping through the channels seeking something worth watching, when I stopped on "Inside the Actor's Studio". This show had the entire voiceover cast from the "Simpsons". Not only was it entertaining, but for us V.O. types, it was inspiring.

Enough said.

If you get a chance to catch this (they repeat frequently), do yourself a favor and make it a point! You'll find it on Bravo.

I found it a terribly frustrating show to watch. The vast majority of times the actors started to do their character voices, they cut away to unrelated clips from the show. I wanted to see them DO THEIR WORK, EXERCISE THEIR TALENT, not some Korean animator's handiwork. It was like blocking out a film actor's face for 80% of an interview.

I fired off an email to Lipton after it first aired. Of course I got zip response.

That was like 2 years ago, and it still pisses me off. Thanks a lot for bring it up Doc. Sheez.

Bruce

Just kidding Doc, but I'm still pissed off at Lipton.

I agree with Bruce. I wanted to see them in the studio.

On a related note, here is the trailer for the new Simpson's Movie:

excellent.

I have to say this episode is what made me want to dust off the microphone and get back on the horse. This group of actors is akin to the group that included Daws Butler, Paul Frees, June Foray and Stan Freberg (to name a few...). They could do anything...

Here's a 20 minute edit I found:

I would have also preferred to not have had the video clips in there as well, but I think Dan Castellaneta's explanation of how he created Homer was good enough that I didn't mind so much. There were also some questions as to why Julie Kavner left halfway through the show. Any ideas?

Thanks for posting that long edit! My guess as to why they used so much of the animation is that the spent money on getting the rights to use the clips. Also...many TV directors & producers seem to have this idea that just showing the people on the stage is too boring. With many actors...they're probably right...but in this case, they were dead wrong.

Yeah - it frustrated me that they showed relentless, unrelated clips, too. But, I understand it. Most of the audience (he says, tongue-in-cheek) are not V.O. actors/artists.

Maybe we can purchase the director's cut?

Rolls Eyes

Still - I hadn't seen this particular episode before and I found it very entertaining.

I, too, received that IV e-mail.

I just watched the little clip on Bravo.com and when James Lipton told Harry Shearer that he thought his character voices (including that of REV. Lovejoy) were a bit "Kinky", the look on his face was priceless. On the other hand, what the hell does that say about James Lipton?!!
