Anyone having compatibility issues with Core Audio and recent versions of Quicktime and iTunes? I'm using OSX 10.4.11; Pro Tools LE 7.3cs1; Mbox1.
Are there any upgrades? Fixes? Work-arounds? I've posted at DUC but get ignored. _________________ www.chriskoprowski.com/en |

Throw it out.
Get it outta there— If you're not using your Mbox as an interface for other a s, just ditch it. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

The Mbox is my default audio interface, esp if I want to use my monitors which are hooked up to it. But the version of Core Audio I use now doesn't work with recent versions of QT/iTunes so I have to use OLD versions of those a s. I do LIKE Pro Tools so I hope there's a fix. _________________ www.chriskoprowski.com/en |

Throw out the Digidesign CoreAudio a .
It is never used when you use Pro Tools. It's a driver that lets you use the Mbox with other recording a s.
Are you using your Mbox as your only output to your speakers?
CoreAudio won't play stuff from the Finder anyway. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

With an Mbox plugged in it sort of becomes your default audio output device My monitors are attached to the Mbox so if I want any sound out of them then I have to use Core Audio which, in it's current version with my set-up, isn't keeping up with updates of other a s. Very frustrating.
I'd rather keep things simple and not have to keep unplugging the Mbox or switching cables from one device to another. Hm. _________________ www.chriskoprowski.com/en |

What I do for my clients in your situation is install a monitor switcher solution, such as the MiniMon 400 from Behringer.
Once you have Mbox in the loop, you are restricted to how much you can update Quicktime. You can always check the Digidesign website for updated Core Audio drivers, but the problem will reoccur eventually. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I think I found a solution.
I have an RME AD-2 converter which I didn't realize could be used as an audio interface on its own. I now have it connected directly to my G5 via TOSLINK cables AND to the Mbox (via SPDIF cables). Also, I connected my active monitors to the AD-2 rather than the Mbox.
Now, when I want to use Pro Tools LE I can simply plug-in the Mbox and clock and monitor through the AD-2.
When not using the Mbox I can unplug it and use the AD-2 as an external clock (and sound output device) with Audio/Midi Setup. And this allows me to use alternative audio editor a s as well.
So, I should be able to upgrade to new versions of QT and iTunes and not have problems with Core Audio and the Mbox.
Does this set-up make any sense? _________________ www.chriskoprowski.com/en |

Sounds like you have it under control there... Well done!
Hopefully QT updates don't effect Pro Tools, either. Some of my clients complain that it has, depending the version Pro Tools and Mac OS you are running. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.
